Reading food blogs is a great way to think about new recipes, kitchen tips, and new ingredients. Food blogs consistently offer quality information, fun stories, and even a few jokes.

If you are having trouble finding some good food blogs–take a deep breath: GatorChef can help. Just check out our list of favorite food blogs that are filled with recipes, entertainment, restaurant news, and some laughs.

1. Eat Chicago: GatorChef is based in the Chicago area so we love reading about the restaurants around us. Eat Chicago gives us some great insights into Chicago’s restaurants from a local and real point of view. It’s written by a die-hard local who eats wherever his feet take him–meaning, he isn’t promoting new places or ‘hip spots’. His frank assessments of local, sometimes unknown, restaurants are fun and educational. If you live in Chicago or are planning a visit skip the guide book and bookmark EatChicago.

2. 101 Cook Books: In 2003 Heidi had a good idea: start using her cookbooks…Today, the site is a huge resource for recipes and culinary adventures. The site’s nice layout compliments Heidi’s great food photography. After reading a few of the posts you will be forced to go into your kitchen and make a creative snack.

3. Chocolate & Zucchini: Take Paris, add 1 good writer, 100’s of recipes, and daily stories and you’ll have an idea of what Chocolate and Zucchini is all about. Chocolate & Zucchini profiles classic French restaurants and European delights. It’s hard not to get a great idea or some motivation after reading a few of her posts.

4. Becks and Posh Nosh: If you’re an anglophile, sausage lover, or a person who enjoys a few drinks than make this blog your homepage. The blog, started in 2004 by a couple of friends, grew into a great selection of recipes, ideas, and restaurant reviews. Now people looking for some inspiration across the pond can get it easily–and with a nice dose of humor.

5. Rasa Malaysia: Asian food is diverse and delicious and Rasa Malaysia, with its amazing food photography, proves this perfectly. The original photography, thousands of recipes, and access to the world of Asian cooking makes this blog incredible and exciting. So the next time you want to make shrimp dumplings–go to Rasa Malaysia.

6. Travelers Lunchbox: The blog’s author is from Washington, but her recipes are from all over. With all the sites great pictures our stomachs start grumbling within seconds. At the Travelers Lunchbox you can find recipes that are as exciting as Malaysian Satays or as classic as butter ice cream.

7. Rockin’ the Stove: Is presented to us by a “Jill of all trades”–a innovate vegetarian chef with a great personality and love for food. We really like her fried green tomatoes recipe and twist. It’s a great tool for chefs looking to expand their vegetarian offerings. Make sure you check her site out–there are even a lot of great videos she has produced herself.
