How to Extend Life of Your Commercial Refrigerator

Commercial refrigerators are expensive items that need proper maintenance in order to last longer. They are not only larger in size compared to regular refrigerators; they also require a lot more electric power to operate. Repair can be very expensive and time consuming. Commercial refrigerators generally have several different compartments, with separate compressors, condensers, and evaporators for the refrigerator and the freezer. Consider this advice to extend the life of your commercial refrigerator:
Keep It Clean. Make sure you unplug the refrigerator before you clean its key elements, such as a compressor or a motor. The coils and the compressor should be kept clean to prolong the life of the unit. Dust and clean them often to make sure the refrigerator remains energy efficient. Clean the interior of the refrigerator using the right cleaning supplies to avoid the damage to the finish of the refrigerator and prevent leaving behind any hazardous chemicals around food products. Usually warm water and basic mild soap will suffice to clean out the interior. Make sure to clean the shelves, door gaskets, and any other detachable components.
Condenser Coil is an important component of the commercial refrigerator, so make sure to clean it often, at least once a month, keeping it free of any dust or dirt. Condenser coils are sealed units on most commercial refrigerators. Regularly cleaning condenser coil with special commercial cleaner will make sure you refrigerator runs efficiently. If you have a serious technical problem with this component, always call a professional service provider to repair it.
Fan and Motor. Clean refrigerator’s fan and motor with a soft cloth regularly, usually once a month. Fan’s function in the refrigerator is to cool the compressor and force the air through the exterior coils. Fan also moves the air around the coils inside the refrigerator. Thus, refrigerator fan ensures that the unit remains cool and also prevents the refrigerator from frosting. It needs to be kept clean and free from any blockages. Otherwise, the fan will start working harder which will eventually shorten the life of the refrigeration unit. Making sure that the fan does not have any obstructions to spin freely and is kept clean will ensure longer lifespan of your refrigerator unit and higher efficiency. Make sure there is a sufficient air flow to the compressor fan.
Spotting Potential Problems Early. Perform routine inspections and periodic checks. Hire professional specialists to check your commercial unit regularly to avoid incurring more cost later, when potential problems turn into greater damage. For instance, a large number of refrigerator problems result from improper handling of the refrigerator doors. This often leads to improper temperatures, formation of frost, and the subsequent loss of energy-efficiency. Check your refrigerator door to make sure it functions properly and closes completely without any obstructions. Train your staff to handle refrigerator doors properly. This may save a lot of headaches down the road.
Maintain Basic Components. Replace parts when necessary and when they wear out. For instance, commercial refrigerators have self-sealing gaskets around the refrigerator doors to make sure the cold air doesn’t escape. Overtime, such gaskets wear out, allowing air in the refrigerator, making it work less efficiently and producing frost on shelves and food products inside the unit. Replace such components regularly to keep your refrigeration unit energy-efficient and to extend its lifespan.
Taking proper measures to maintain your commercial refrigerator might seem time-consuming and require some expenditure. However, by timely implementing such measures, you will actually save money in the long run by making sure your unit lasts longer and remains in its top condition.
