Best Restaurants for Wine and Food Lovers According to Wine Spectator Magazine

Annually, Wine Spectator Magazine distributes Wine Spectator Restaurant Grand Awards to recognize the best restaurants that value patronage of their customers, and work hard to satisfy diners’ food and wine wishes.  Grand Awards honor those restaurants that have exceptional wine programs, which include offering cellars with mature vintages, showcasing best producers, and providing superior cuisine and service.  What does it take for a restaurant to make that list?  Here is the info about some of the restaurants from the Grand Awards list, which should provide a few clues:

The Angus Barn, Raleigh, NC. One of the nation’s most successful restaurants, the Angus Barn has annual sales volume of 10 million dollars, making it one of the nation’s top 50 grossing restaurants.  It’s a classic steak house, where beef and potatoes are the staples on the menu.   On an average night, restaurant serves about 600 aged western steaks.   The Angus Barn has a seating capacity of 550 people, and it also includes a gift shop.  Barn’s basement is home to 30,000-bottle Wine Cellar, featuring 1,200 types of wines from all over the world.

Bern’s Steak House, Tampa, FL. This restaurant is known internationally for its spectacular wine collection, perfectly aged steaks, and a famous dessert room.  Some of the highlights on the menu include prime steaks cut-to-order, 21 choices of caviar, fresh seafood, and organic vegetables grown on Bern’s farm.   The wine collection has 6,500 labels, and the menu of after-dinner drinks and wines has over 1,000 items.  The restaurant also owns Bern’s Fine Wines Shop that features hard-to-find and rare wines.

Brennan’s Restaurant, New Orleans, LA. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, Brennan’s Restaurant is a highly acclaimed establishment with accolades from countless food critics and national publications.  It is recognized by Wine Spectator for having an exemplary 35,000 bottles wine cellar.  The menu offers an extensive selection of dinner items, including most popular baby milk-fed veal, prime succulent beef, local seafood, and many others.

Delmonico Steakhouse, Las Vegas, NV. Owned by Chef Emeril Lagasse, this restaurant is located in the Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, featuring classic American steakhouse dishes with Creole influences.  The restaurant has an impressive wine list, large inviting bar space, cigar cabinet, and an intimate ambiance.  Dinner dishes include sophisticated entrees like Bone In Rib Steak, Ribeye Steak, Ahi Tuna, Roasted Rack of Lamb, and Jumbo Australian Lobster Tail.

JJ’s, Kansas City, MO. Rated by Zagat as one of Kansas City’s top restaurants, JJ’s is famous for its thick steaks, fresh seafood, and pasta specials. The wine list features over 1,700 selections, and a cellar has over 40,000 bottles to choose from.   The cellar has an especially rich selection of Bordeaux, Burgundy wines, Champagne and California wines.  The French wines are offered at attractive price ranges, with only exotic wines priced a bit higher.

Mr. Stox, Anaheim, CA. Located near Disneyland, the restaurant features a full bar lounge with a cozy fireplace, dining rooms offer privacy with spacious booths.   A pianist performs every night to create a relaxed dining ambiance.  The restaurant has an inventory of 25,000 wine bottles, offering over 1,100 wine selections.  The restaurant uses seasonal ingredients, bakes five kinds of breads twice each day, and has a large herb and fruit garden to have the freshest ingredients readily available.
